Is the Bible True?

If one believes that the prophets and other writers of the Bible were inspired of God to pen the words they did, it becomes necessary to assume that the Bible is a book of truths and not lies. A book that goes far beyond merely a book of prose, literature, or historical chronology of times past. A book that has had a greater and lasting influence of good for mankind that all other books put together. What evidence does the reader of the Bible have to support its claim of inspiration?

The Bible is a book that was written by approximately forty men. These men came from various walks of life; some were well educated, others had very little formal education. Amazingly, this book was authored over a period of about sixteen hundred years. Over a period of time, all the books written by these men over hundreds of generations, were gathered and recorded in one volume, the Bible. The remainder of this introduction will focus on the type of book that they wrote.

First of all, they had written a book in which there couldn’t be found a single geographical, historical or scientific error. In fact, they had written book that discussed many geographic, historic, and scientific facts that were not yet known to the educated world at the time. Yes, the writers of the Bible spoke often of geographic and scientific facts hundreds (sometimes thousands) of years before they were known of others. Likewise, they prophesied accurately of many events in history, but unlike conventional historians, these writers penned their accounts before the events occurred. Could uninspired men accomplish such a task?

They also had written a book that discussed hundreds and hundreds of different subjects and, for the most part, each man at one time or another wrote about each of the topics. Each subject covered was explained completely, and none left dangling. The individual writings of these men complimented one another, never was there a contradiction in their accounts. These are significant accomplishments considering, as already mentioned, this book was written over a sixteen-hundred year time span.

It might also be noted that these men wrote a book that never has, nor will ever, need to be revised. From the days of Moses until present times there have been innumerable scientific and archeological discoveries. Many of these have from time to time caused scientists and historians to revise their previous publications because they were found to be incorrect. There has never been a need to revise a scientific, geographic, or historic statement penned by the forty authors of the Bible.

Another interesting observation is that the work of these forty men would eventually discredit its would-be enemies. As discoveries were made that validated the truths within the Bible, numerous former skeptics were forced to accept them. The Bible was physically recorded by men, some great, and some ordinary; however, they were all inspired of God and as a result, wrote the greatest book of all time.
